New Art Exhibit “The Art of Dating” at Tryst, January 4th through February 1st

By Dave
"The Art of Dating" is a solo exhibit of paintings by Dana Ellyn that is inspired by Rachel Machacek's book, "The Science of Single". The art includes quirky paintings of events which we have all probably been a part of at some point in our dating history. Some of them are even haunting in a way....reflecting those dates that you either must laugh or else cry about.
All of the paintings are inspired by Rachel Machacek's book, "The Science of Single". Machacek's book was released on January 3rd and she will be having a signing of her new book and will dole out some dating advice at Tryst this month.
Each of the paintings in Ellyn's exhibit stemmed from a particular quote in the book. For example, Ellyn's painting "Granny Panty Date Night" took shape from the following anecdote in Machacek's book:
"To thwart any possible sex, I'd gone in prepared. This meant I actually planned for a night of sex, because everyone knows that shaved legs and lac...y underwear guarantee no hookup. However, my theory is if I go in with full-coverage cotton underwear that comes in three-packs and with a five-day growth on my legs, it's altogether possible I could end up dancing around a pole."
The paintings seem to be an excellent reflection of what may be in store in the book and for any who have been through the horrors and wonders of online dating, bar-crawling in search of the one, and the like, Machacek's “The Science of Single" could prove to be a great read. Ellen McCarthy, from "The Washington Post" states that it's "a memoir that's equal parts funny, mortifying and insightful and stands to make Machacek into the Bridget Jones of Washington.
