About Tryst

No Corporate Coffee, No Matching Silverware

Tryst has been in the neighborhood since 1998, and has given Washingtonians an opportunity to come together over a truly great cup of coffee, enjoy some light café fare, and even try a craft cocktail…all in the same visit.  We strive to be your ‘third place’ to go -- where you can escape the stresses of everyday responsibilities but still connect to your local community and the outside world.

Right in the center of the nation’s capital, Tryst stands in stark contrast to the suburban culture and coffee chains that proliferate the country. We’re a single location, owned and operated by the same couple that started it in 1998. No, our silverware doesn’t always match, and we don’t have 75 different kinds of trademarked, pre-made caramel-nilla-frapp-a-ccino-supremas. What we do have is excellent made to order food and drink, and a commitment to serving the community.

So, roll on down, find a seat, sit back and prepare to enjoy something truly exceptional. We offer specialty coffee and espresso drinks made by skilled baristas, craft cocktails made with reference to the classics and incorporating fresh and interesting ingredients, fine pastries baked daily by our sister restaurant, and sandwiches and small plates that incorporate flavors from around the world.

~ Community ~

"(Tryst is a) public place
where you can hang out
do your own thing
among others doing
their own thing.
That defines
neighborhood culture."
– Constantine Stavropoulos, Owner, quoted in CityStreem

~ Diversity ~

"(O)ur combining... coffee and booze comes from a place of inclusion and community. ...The coffeehouse, tea house and bar have historically been social places and a diversity of drink options supports a diversity of interaction and ideas." - David Fritzler,
Beverage Manager in Fresh Cup Magazine, March, 2011
