SOME WIFI KNOW HOW.
Installing a Wireless card in your laptop
Win9X and WinMe
- While computer is powered off, insert wireless card into an empty PCMCIA slot located on either side of the laptop.
- Power on the computer. There will be a prompt to insert the software CD that came the card. Do so, and this will automatically install the drivers for your Wi-Fi card.
- Your computer will most likely need to reboot to finalize the install.
- After your computer reboots, your new hardware should be installed.
Win2000 and WinXP
- The only difference from above is that your laptop does not need to be powered off to install the card because these operating systems will automatically detect new hardware; you also do not need to reboot the machine.
Configuring a Wi-Fi card
There are two components of the card's configuration that allow you to obtain access to the Internet: The channel and SSID.
- Most cards will automatically search and detect both for you.
Sending and Receiving e-mail using a non-web based email client
(Example: Outlook Express)
- Assuming your mail settings are already setup, meaning the server information, you should be able to send and receive e-mail with no problem. If you experience difficulty doing so, try setting your outgoing "Mail Server Requires Authentication".
